Information about the club and golf course

Green plains with 3000-year history and challenges.

For 3000 years, pioneering spirit and entrepreneurs have shaped the land on which Brøndby Golfklub has its beautiful course.
In connection with the expansion of the track in 2004-05, archaeologists from the Kroppedal Museum discovered a large Iron Age farm from around the year 400, as well as two other settlements and house plots that date back 3,000 years.

In recent times, there has been horticulture on the land and since 1997, when the golf club was founded, the tradition of looking after the land and nature has been maintained and continued.
With the golf course, there have been quite a few more lakes and streams – to the benefit of wildlife, diversity and a challenge for the golfers.

The green wedge:
The golf course is located in the green wedge, which in Brøndby Municipality connects similar areas in the neighboring municipalities of Hvidovre and Vallensbæk. The recreational area in the three municipalities is used extensively by citizens and guests: runners, cyclists, horse riders and people who "just" want to go for a nice walk in nature.

In the area there is also a medieval village, allotment gardens and utility gardens as well as a part of the peace forest. The course's close-to-town location with a limited area available posed a challenge for the course architect, and this challenge has been passed on to the players – on no fewer than 13 of 18 holes there are penalty areas (water hazards) in play.

Birth of the golf club:
Brøndby Golfklub's birth actually took place in Hvidovre, where a circle of golf enthusiasts had their eyes on the Avedøresletten for a golf course back in 1993, but it encountered obstacles from the political side. Environment Minister Svend Auken and Denmark's Nature Conservation Association were against it. The project had the support of the then county mayor Per Kaalund and Hvidovre mayor Britta Christensen.

Hvidovre Golfklub's chairman and later Brøndby Golfklub's first chairman, veterinarian Ib Lorentzen, had a client who was Brøndby's then legendary mayor Kjeld Rasmussen. As he was a little envious of Vallensbæk, which already had a golf course, he was quite interested in taking over the project and thus accommodating to the location of a golf course in Brøndby Municipality. So in 1994 the project moved from Hvidovre to Brøndby, and after a lot of tug-of-war with many technical obstacles, it succeeded, especially with great effort from Nikolaj Hertel from Brøndby Golf ApS in 1999, to establish a golf course consisting of 9 holes. Before then, you only had 3 holes, built around an old horse paddock, where the terrace is today. Here, the members displayed a pioneering spirit both in negotiating with the authorities and in setting up the locations. This helped to establish a unity and a social community which is still alive and well in the club.

Although the course is fully developed and the clubhouse is renovated, there will always be plans, and even if the external framework changes, the plan is to maintain the tradition of the good community and now also with a cafe with reasonable prices.
